Olivia's bedroom remodel has been a work in progress for 3 months now. haha. We've made alot of progress but we still have quite a few things to get done. When Brian thought up the plans for building her bunkbed he came to me and this was basically how the conversation went:
smart construction husband: What do you think about this?
non construction smart wife: =\
smart construction husband: It's common sense babe. Look, this is where the headboard will be and (insert chinese here....)
smart construction husband: So, what do you think?
non construction smart wife: Sure! Sounds fabulous! (I still had NO clue what he was talking about but trusted him and knew it would look great.)
We started with getting wood and taking measurements. Okay, Brian got wood and took measurements and I took pictures. :) Once I got her bedroom emptied out, I went and picked out paint samples and let her choose from the few colors that I had picked. I was very, very happy with the colors she chose!
Brian started doing his thing. At this point, he said "Do you see it now? Is it making sense?" "Oh, totally babe!" (Nope, still had NO CLUE what this sucker was gonna look like when it was finished.)
I will say, I was very impressed with his building skills. Especially since he thought this whole thing up on his own, and just worked from his brain. He didn't draw up a plan on paper or anything. He's pretty fabulous. One day when we're old, er, when I'm old and he's (10 years) older, it'll be amazing to see him build our own house.
True story: This is when I finally started understanding what the bed was going to look like. haha! He even took some time and put in power sources so they could have nightlights on their headboards and a light and lightswitch on the backside of the bed since it kinda made a dark hole back in the closet. (You'll see a better picture of that further down.)
Yay! It's looking like a bed!
Norah did a little spackling and hole filling for us. ;)
Now we were ready to start the painting project! Painting is always so much fun in my head, but once you're actually doing it, it sucks. True story. Olivia's room is small and so I didn't think it would take long. Yeah right. Factor in a 10 month old and a 4 year old and you're painting this small hole in your house for 2 weeks!
And this is where we are now. This is the area I was mentioning earlier. You can see why we put the light in. One of the next things on our list is to (permanently) remove the closet doors and build a shelving unit in her closet.
(The light prevents you from seeing, but that canvas was a pinterest project. I used puffy paint and put "The Lord is my strength and my song" with a little singing birdie down in the corner, and then after it dried, I spray painted the whole thing pink.)
This was her room before:
And this is her room now......
Like I said at the beginning, it's still a work in progress. We still need to put a gaurd rail on the top bunk. I'm going to put a few small shelves on this part of the bed up here at the front. The underneathe is actually a trundle bed and so Brian is building the drawer that the matress will hide in. I already bought my drawer knobs from hobby lobby and I'm pretty excited about them! haha. The dresser is going to be taken out of this room and we're building a shelving and cabinet area, along with a small desk for Liv since she'll be starting school this fall. (tear!!)
So, there you have it! I'll do another blog post once her room is completely done. And then it'll be onto our room and the guest room eventually! Woo hoo!
